Are you interested in helping families transform bedtime battles into calm, connected routines? Are your teenage clients stuck in toxic late-night patterns that are hard to budge? Come along to this masterclass to dispel myths and misconceptions, and learn evidence-based, practical, and effective approaches to child and teen sleep issues.

Persistent sleep difficulties in children and adolescents can contribute to the maintenance of a range of behavioural and mental health problems for children and teens. Chronic poor sleep can also impact on learning and other physical health indicators for the individual child, as well as adding to heightened family stress, quality of life and parent-child conflict. In spite of the crucial function of adequate sleep, it can be an overlooked focus for clinical intervention.

This masterclass is designed for health professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of child and adolescent sleep and to strengthen their confidence in delivering evidence based cognitive and behavioural sleep interventions in real world settings.

Drawing on contemporary research and clinical experience, this masterclass will explore the psycho biological foundations of sleep across childhood and adolescence, including an overview of common sleep disorders and developmental considerations. Particular attention will be paid to common myths and misconceptions about sleep that can unintentionally maintain difficulties for children, teens, and their families.

The masterclass will introduce participants to the core components of evidence based CBT approaches to paediatric sleep problems, with a focus on translating theory into practical, flexible interventions. Through a combination of didactic teaching, case exemplars, group discussion, and live demonstrations, participants will be supported to think critically about how sleep interventions can be tailored to different developmental stages, family contexts, and clinical presentations.

In addition, the masterclass will address common barriers encountered in therapy, such as parental anxiety, adolescent resistance, inconsistent routines, and challenges with engagement or adherence. Practical therapy process strategies will be discussed to help clinicians navigate these issues while maintaining a collaborative, compassionate stance.

Overall, this masterclass offers an evidence informed, practice focused approach to working with child and adolescent sleep difficulties, supporting clinicians to integrate effective CBT based sleep interventions into their everyday clinical work.
