Area of Expertise
  • Clinical Psychology

Samantha Angelakis is currently completing her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Flinders University. Her research background and experience is in the area of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression treatment. More specifically, her PhD research has focused on investigating the utility of a combined treatment approach that targeted both PTSD and depressive symptoms in those with comorbid PTSD and depression. In this PhD Samantha conducted a randomised treatment trial in which over 50 individuals with comorbid PTSD and depression were treated with Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Behavioural Activation. She has extensive experience in the delivery of CPT and has supervised other therapists in the delivery of CPT.

Through her clinical and research work Samantha has also maintained a strong interest in the field of developmental psychopathology. Her work in the traumatic stress area has led Samantha to become particularly interested in how the treatment of PTSD can be improved in adults and children, how comorbidity can best be handled, and how parenting factors, including parent response to the child’s psychopathology, may influence the child’s psychological recovery.
