Non-suicidal self injury among young people is more common than you think. Find out how to respond, including working with schools, in this interactive masterclass

Please note the following venue change:
Due to greater than anticipated interest in this event, we have decided to relocate to a bigger location.

This Masterclass will now be held at The University of Western Australia in the Bayliss Lecture Theatre, and includes access to free parking on the day.

This AACBT Masterclass is for any health professional working with self harming youth who are interested in adding new knowledge and strategies to their suite of services.

In the first half of this workshop you will learn about:

  • Epidemiological data outlining the nature and extend of non-suicidal self injury (NSSI) in Australia
  • Risk Factors associated with NSSI
  • The relationship between NSSI and suicidal behaviour
  • Guidelines for working with schools with a student is self harming

In the second half, you will be provided with an overview of the Touchstone program – an innovative service for young people with severe self harming behaviours and emerging personality disorders where you will learn about:

  • The mentalisation-informed therapeutic community that the Touchstone model is based on
  • Mentalisation-based therapy and its clinical application on the individual, group and family levels
  • The integration of mentalisation-based therapy with CBT

The program is based on the psychoanalytically oriented Mentalisation Based Therapy, and the presenters will discuss the integration of this type of therapy with CBT.

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances Dr Barry Jones has moved back to the UK and is unable to attend.
