An Introduction to the Application of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Chronic Pain

Presenter: Dr Melissa Day

Would you like to learn practical skills needed to apply mindfulness-based cognitive therapy to chronic pain and clinician self-care?

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an innovative treatment approach that seamlessly integrates mindfulness- and cognitive-behavioural principles. Research has demonstrated that MBCT is efficacious for a number of conditions, and the evidence-base regarding the application of this approach to chronic pain is promising.

By participating in this masterclass you will learn the theory underlying MBCT for chronic pain, as well as the core skills needed in applying this therapeutic approach. A step-by-step guiding framework for delivering the 8-sessions will be provided. Several mindfulness meditation practices will be interactively taught via didactic and experiential exercises for both clinical application, and as a tool for therapist self-care. Recently completed, on-going and future research directions associated with MBCT will be discussed, and recommended resources for continued learning provided.

This masterclass is a 3-hour session, designed to provide a more in-depth experience than a pub discussion; there will be opportunities for interaction during the event.

A light morning tea is included in the ticket price and provides 3 hours CPD.

Registration opens at 8:30am for a 9:00am start.
